Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, take what resonates with you and simply leave what doesn’t.

To embark on this adventure, start by gathering any available information from your older relatives. Ask about family documents, photo albums, and stories passed down through generations. These valuable resources will serve as breadcrumbs leading you to uncover forgotten stories and long-buried secrets. Ancestors as Spiritual Guides: Seeking Guidance and Support from Those Who Came Before

In many cultures around the world, the idea of honoring and working with your ancestors as spiritual guides holds a deep significance. This practice involves seeking guidance, support, and wisdom from those who came before us, recognizing their presence in our lives. Ancestors are believed to be a source of protection, love, and ancestral knowledge, and connecting with them can bring a sense of belonging and rootedness.

Honoring and working with your ancestors can take different forms, depending on your cultural background and personal beliefs. Some people create ancestor altars, adorned with photographs, candles, and offerings, where they can communicate and pay respects to their ancestors. Others may engage in rituals, ceremonies, or meditations to deepen their connection. This practice is not limited to those who have passed away recently; it can encompass generations of ancestors, spanning centuries.

The bond with our ancestors transcends time and space, tapping into a collective consciousness that carries the wisdom and experiences of our lineage. Seeking guidance and support from our ancestors can help us navigate life's challenges, gain clarity in decision-making, and find strength during difficult times. By maintaining this connection, we acknowledge the foundation upon which we stand and recognize that we are part of something greater than ourselves.

When setting up Altars take moments to meditate, pray and speak life over you and your connection. Use the knowledge that you have gathered along the way to understand and choose who you’d like to honor and connect with . Always remember, just like in real life, you dont have to work with and honor all ancestors. Some family members we just dont vibe well with. That works in the spiritual world too. Once you have taken time to connect , add things like images, personal items and their favorite drinks on the altar. Some prefer to lay a white cloth over the table, I personally use a wooden desk that I blessed and cleanse for my altar space. Do what you feel is best. I have images for some of my ancestors, but I also include a blank picture frame in which I’ve prayed over, “ all ancestors known and unknown who wish me and my family the best, happiest and healthiest life, I honor you here”. I add candles, with intentions and other trinkets.

Offerings- When it comes to offerings, I leave money, jewelry, perfume, food, liquor and bibles…. and more depending what I feel moved to do. The key thing is to listen and connect to what your spirit is moving you to do. Don’t overthink the connection, don’t over think the offerings. Many time, mostly all the time all they want you to do is show up, connect and don’t forget their story. That means the world to them. In my personal practice, I wake up grab my bible, pray, meditate and just listen. Listen for guidance, clues, anything.

Don’t forget, your practice is sacred. Treat your altar like you treat your most sacred items. Put it somewhere private if you can, clean it, bless it and pray to it. When troubles start troubling, come to your altar, when you need answers, come to your altar. Connect with those who came before and allow them to protect and be your guide.

As always love and hugs to you and yours,

B
